Montgomery Movers You Can Trust Since 1969

Johnnie T. Melia Moving & Storage has been the Houston area's trusted moving company since 1969, and Montgomery, the historic birthplace of the Texas flag on the west side of Lake Conroe, is a community we have watched grow from quiet country town to one of the metro's most sought-after addresses. From waterfront estates in Bentwater and Grand Harbor to the master-planned streets of Woodforest and the historic homes near downtown, Montgomery moves span every kind of job we do. Whether you are arriving for the lake life, moving within a golf community, or heading anywhere in the metro or beyond, our licensed and insured movers handle every detail so you do not have to.

About Johnnie T. Melia Moving & Storage

We are not a national franchise dispatching day laborers. Every crew member is a trained, full-time employee, and every move is backed by full Texas DMV licensing (TxDMV No. 0000005457), US DOT authority (No. 436264), cargo insurance, and an ATA ProMover certification held by fewer than 10 percent of moving companies in the country. Lake Conroe’s gated communities check credentials at the gate, and ours clear every time.

Our Experience Moving in Montgomery

Montgomery’s geography sorts our work into three distinct jobs, and decades here mean all three are well practiced. The lake communities, Bentwater, Grand Harbor, Walden, and their neighbors, are gated, golf-oriented, and estate-scale: gate clearance arranged in advance, waterfront and outdoor inventories counted, and high-value pieces crated and documented. Woodforest and the newer master-planned sections run the suburban playbook: HOA coordination, new-finish protection, and school-calendar timing. And historic Montgomery itself, with homes dating back generations near the old downtown, gets the vintage-home care we bring to century-old properties anywhere: measured doorways, protected original floors, and patience. Three Montgomerys, one standard.

Below are average ranges for local moves in the Montgomery area. These are estimates, and your actual quote may be higher or lower depending on your specific situation.

Home size	Crew size	Est. hours	Avg local move cost
Studio / 1 Bedroom	2 movers	2 to 4 hours	$300 to $550
2 Bedroom	2 to 3 movers	4 to 6 hours	$550 to $950

What affects your price

What does not change

Our hourly rates, our crew quality, and our commitment to no hidden fees. The price we quote is the price you pay.

Long-distance moves are priced differently, based on weight, distance, and services selected, and require a binding or non-binding estimate. Contact us for a free in-home or video survey for any move over 50 miles.

Questions? We have answers

Our team is here to address all your moving concerns. From pricing and timelines to licensing, insurance, and contracts, we provide clear, honest answers to help you make informed decisions. No question is too small our goal is to ensure your move is smooth, safe, and stress-free.

What should a home or business owner consider when looking for professional moving services?

The most common consideration when hiring movers is cost. Many people risk overpaying for services that don’t meet expectations, particularly businesses. While using friends or family may seem cheaper, it can lead to complications and stress. When choosing a moving company, it’s important to weigh pricing alongside labor, project duration, and the distance of the move. Reliable movers often provide free online quotes or on-site estimates, ensuring accurate pricing and helping clients pay only for the services they truly need. Careful evaluation of these factors ensures a smooth, efficient, and stress-free move.

How long does a typical moving project take?

The duration of a move depends largely on the customer’s needs. Local moves are usually completed within a single day unless additional services like packing or specialty handling are required. Long-distance or interstate moves may take longer, depending on distance, volume, and special handling needs. Getting a free quote or on-site estimate from a professional moving company can provide a clear timeframe tailored to your specific move.

Why is Johnnie T. Melia Moving & Storage considered one of the best moving services?

With decades of experience, top moving services prioritize quality, reliability, and customer care. A reputable moving company focuses on protecting your belongings, minimizing stress, and providing professional packing and storage solutions. Their commitment to treating clients with respect ensures a smooth, positive moving experience. Choosing experienced movers guarantees that every project is handled efficiently and with care.

Why choose one of the best moving companies? Aren’t they all the same?

Not all moving companies are the same. Whether relocating household items, office equipment, or a single room, choosing a reputable company ensures your move is handled efficiently and safely. Top movers combine experience with affordable rates, prioritizing customer needs, security, and a stress-free moving experience tailored to your specific requirements.

How can I find a good moving company?

Finding a reliable moving company starts with looking for businesses that have clear strengths setting them apart from the competition. Reputable movers focus on answering questions, providing excellent customer service, and demonstrating professionalism without negative sales tactics or comparisons. A trustworthy company builds confidence through transparency, experience, and a proven track record of successful moves.

Is Johnnie T. Melia Moving & Storage licensed and insured to operate?

Yes, Johnnie T. Melia Moving & Storage is fully licensed and insured. Their licensing and insurance ensure that moves are safe, legal, and protected. Customers can verify their credentials to confirm their “ACTIVE” status for peace of mind.

How can someone tell if the business is legal and professional?

All reputable moving companies have clearly marked trucks displaying the company name, USDOT number, and any required licensing certificate number on both sides. It is legally required to have this information visible. If a moving vehicle arrives without the proper markings, do not allow them into your home or office.

Am I required to sign contracts or documents?

Yes, proposals, contracts, and other documentation are designed to protect the consumer. A licensed moving professional will review any proposal with you before requiring a signature. Once signed, no additional charges can be applied without mutual agreement. Always read all documents carefully before signing. Additionally, licensed movers are required by law to provide a “Rights and Responsibilities” brochure to inform consumers of their protections.

What a great deal. Is this price, right?

As the saying goes, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Extremely low prices may appear attractive, but they can end up costing the consumer more in hidden fees or rushed contracts. Be cautious of movers offering unusually low rates, and always review agreements carefully before committing.

Can customers ask questions before booking movers?

The customer should always feel free to ask questions. The best moving companies answer questions openly, provide documentation freely, and make the customer feel comfortable with a stressful situation.
