Midtown Movers You Can Trust Since 1969

Johnnie T. Melia Moving & Storage has been Houston's trusted moving company since 1969, and Midtown apartment moves are some of the most frequent jobs on our schedule. As a second-generation, family-owned business, we know Midtown's mid-rises and towers the way residents do: which buildings require freight elevator reservations, which loading docks have height limits, and how tight the timing windows get at the end of the month. Whether you are moving into a tower near Bagby, out of a mid-rise by Elizabeth Baldwin Park, or upgrading from a Midtown apartment to your first house, our licensed and insured movers handle every detail so you do not have to.

About Johnnie T. Melia Moving & Storage

We are not a national franchise dispatching day laborers. Every crew member is a trained, full-time employee, and every move is backed by full Texas DMV licensing (TxDMV No. 0000005457), US DOT authority (No. 436264), cargo insurance, and an ATA ProMover certification held by fewer than 10 percent of moving companies in the country. In a neighborhood where nearly every move involves a leasing office, an elevator, and a deadline, that paperwork and professionalism is not a bonus. It is the job.

Our Experience Moving in Midtown

Apartment-dense neighborhoods reward movers who prepare, and Midtown is the proof. Over thousands of moves here, our crews have learned the rhythm of this neighborhood: freight elevators book out fast at month-end, most buildings require a certificate of insurance on file before a crew can touch the dock, and a two-hour elevator window means the truck must be packed in a planned order, not improvised. We call your building before moving day, confirm dock dimensions and elevator pads, submit COI paperwork, and build the loading plan around your reservation window. That preparation is the difference between a three-hour Midtown move and a six-hour one, and it is why property managers here see our trucks every week.

Our Moving Services in Midtown

We offer a complete range of moving and storage services designed to meet every need, whether you’re moving a few blocks away or across the country. Our services include residential and commercial moving, long-distance relocation, packing and unpacking, storage solutions, and specialized moving for pianos, safes, and designer furnishings.

Local Moving in Midtown

Our local movers handle moves within Midtown and between Midtown and every Houston neighborhood: to the Heights, Montrose, EaDo, the suburbs, and back. We know the one-way grid, the light rail crossings on Main, and where a 26-foot truck can and cannot stage. Most local moves are completed in a single day with a crew of two to four movers.

First Home Moves

A huge share of Midtown moves are renters becoming homeowners. We handle the full transition: packing the apartment, coordinating the building move-out requirements, and delivering to your new home in Katy, Pearland, the Heights, or wherever the next chapter is, all in one scheduled day.

Long-Distance Moving from Midtown

Moving out of Texas or across state lines? As an agent for National Van Lines, JT Melia provides fully coordinated long-distance and interstate moving services with door-to-door delivery. We manage the full scope, from packing and loading to transportation and delivery, so your move from Midtown to Dallas, Denver, Atlanta, or anywhere in the country stays on schedule and within budget.

Apartment and High-Rise Moving in Midtown

This is the core Midtown move and we have it down to a system: elevator reservations, dock scheduling, COI submission, protective floor runs through lobbies, and crews who load in reservation-window order. From studios to three-bedroom corner units, most Midtown apartment moves are completed within the elevator window your building assigns.

Commercial Moving

Midtown is offices, studios, and restaurants along Main, Bagby, and Gray. Our commercial movers work after hours and on weekends, clear the freight elevator and loading dock with building management first, and move desks, files, and equipment so your team is working again the next morning.

Packing Services

Midtown moves are usually elevator moves, and packing decides how fast they go. We deliver cartons and paper ahead of time or pack for you, crate TVs and glass, and label every box by room so the move-in fits inside your building’s reserved elevator window.

How Much Do Midtown Movers Cost?

Midtown moving costs depend on four main factors: the size of your home, the number of movers required, how long the move takes, and any specialty services like packing, piano moving, or storage. Below are average ranges for local moves in the Midtown area. These are estimates, and your actual quote may be higher or lower depending on your specific situation.

Home size	Crew size	Est. hours	Avg local move cost
Studio / 1 Bedroom	2 movers	2 to 4 hours	$300 to $550
2 Bedroom	2 to 3 movers	4 to 6 hours	$550 to $950
3 Bedroom	3 movers	5 to 8 hours	$850 to $1,400
4 Bedroom	3 to 4 movers	7 to 10 hours	$1,200 to $2,000
5+ Bedroom / Estate	4+ movers	Full day+	Custom quote

What affects your price

Stairs and elevators, building requirements like freight elevator windows, specialty items (pianos, safes, artwork), packing services, distance between locations, time of year (summer moves cost more), and whether you need storage.

What does not change

Our hourly rates, our crew quality, and our commitment to no hidden fees. The price we quote is the price you pay.

Long-distance moves are priced differently, based on weight, distance, and services selected, and require a binding or non-binding estimate. Contact us for a free in-home or video survey for any move over 50 miles.

How a JT Melia Midtown Move Works

Get Your Free Quote

Call us, fill out our online form, or request a virtual video estimate. We will gather the details of your move: home size, floor access, specialty items, and target date, and provide an accurate estimate, not a lowball number designed to get you booked.

Confirm Your Move Date

Once you accept the quote, we confirm your moving date, assign your crew, and send you a confirmation with everything in writing. We recommend booking at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance for local moves and 4 to 6 weeks for long-distance moves. Summer bookings fill quickly, so plan ahead.

Moving Day

Your crew arrives on time with a fully equipped truck, professional packing materials, furniture pads, dollies, and the equipment needed for your specific move. We do a walkthrough with you before we start, so nothing gets missed. Your crew works efficiently, and we respect that your time matters.
